What is the name of fantasy book series?
I am trying to remember the first fantasy book series I ever read. The books are from 1985 or so. I only remember some details. In book 1, I believe a village is over run with undead and a young man realizes he has a great destiny. In book 2, there where characters called huntsman (or hunters) that when you killed one of them the remaining huntsmans gained his strength. Then at some point in later books, the hero tries to find his destiny and tries to be a tailor and a blacksmith. The last thing I remember is in one of the final books, the heroes are trapped in a snowstorm on a mountain and the bard burns his instrument to keep the party warm.
Those are The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander, and the first one was actually published in 1964 and the last one in 1968. Disney made a movie very loosely based on the first and second books in 1985.
They were my favorite books when I was wee before I discovered The Lord of the Rings.

Ironically, composer Thomas Newman’s score is a compelling exercise in musical economy–spare, emotionally longing arrangements where the spaces resonate almost as much as the notes. The composer (youngest son of the great film … |
